From paper pick lists to scanners: switch in 5 steps
Paper pick lists work, until things get busy. Then wrong deliveries start to pile up. In five steps you move to picking with a scanner, without bringing your warehouse to a halt.

1.Give every location a code
Aisle, rack, level and bin. Start with the items you pick most often.
2.Make sure every item has a barcode
Use the supplier’s EAN, or print your own labels for items without a barcode.
3.Set up the walking route
Sort locations in the order in which you walk through the warehouse. Kantex sorts pick lists accordingly.
4.Start with one team or one zone
Let one crew work with the scanner for a week, alongside the paper list. Collect their questions.
5.Measure the result
Look at incorrect deliveries, picking time per line and stock discrepancies at counts. Then roll it out to the whole warehouse.
